Way back in 2014, the smartphone giant Xiaomi was ordered by the Delhi High Court to stop selling it’s smartphones in india. The never ending battle with Ericson ultimately resulted in the smartphone giant using only the Snapdragon chipsets for it’s smartphones in the country. While now everything seems to be settled down, the company hasn’t announced any new smartphones with the MediaTek Processor in India. Now, as per the latest news from “MediaTek”, Xiaomi is now absolutely free to use their chipsets in the Indian smartphone market. This means that we might actually get to see some MediaTek powered Xiaomi smartphones pretty soon in the market. The last xiaomi smartphone to be launched in India with the MediaTek Processor was the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G which came with the MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor.
Forget India, the company hasn’t launched any MediaTek powered smartphones even in their home country China in the last couple of years. Last year, Xiaomi launched their very own chipset called the Surge S1. The only device to come out with this new chipset is the Xiaomi Redmi 5X. While there are many leaks going around suggesting that the Surge S2 is going to launch very soon, we haven’t received any official confirmation yet. According to some unidentified source, Xiaomi has already placed some really big orders for the MediaTek Helio P60 and P70 chipsets. While many of the smartphones are already using the “MediaTek” Helio P60, we haven’t seen any Helio P70-powered smartphones in India yet. On the basis of some earlier leaks, Xiaomi might launch the Helio P60 powered smartphone soon. Interestingly, while devices such as the Realme 1 features the latest 12nm Helio P60 processor, the newly released Redmi Y2 came out with the 2-year old Snapdragon 625 processor.
