Huawei Quietly Listed The Y5 Prime (2018) On Their Official Website

Huawei is slowly and gradually growing habitual to launch their new Y family device quietly. These devices see no announcements, events, official statements considering the fact that there is nothing great about this line of smartphones, however, if there is something new coming to the market, a little peak is somehow necessary. The new Huawei Y5 prime is a small handset made for people who relish small devices and prefer one-handed usage with dimensions measuring 146.5 x 70.9 x 8.3mm and weighing 142 grams.

The device will come with a 5.45-inch HD+ Display. Under the hood, the device will be backed by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which will have expandable storage support via a microSD card. The good thing is that there is a dedicated microSD slot in the device and it won’t interfere with the provided Sim slots in the device. The DRA-L22 variant is the one with dual SIM optionality and the DRA-L02 has just one Sim card slot. What seems surprising is that Huawei did not share any details whatsoever about the make and model of the chipset that’ll be powering the device, whether they used a Snapdragon chipset or it’s proprietary Kirin chipset is still unknown. Previous leaks and rumors suggested that the device will have a quad-core CPU which will be clocked at 1.5GHz. Considering this setup, our best guess is that the Huawei Y5 Prime will be powered by the Snapdragon 450.

The camera has a 13 MP shooter to the back of the device and a 5 MP shooter to the front of the device. What did manage to make the cut and sounded impressive on paper is that the device supports face unlock functionality, like the ones seen on some flagship devices on the market. Huawei, however, said that this is not an out of the box feature and will be sent to do the device via a software update in the future. This Y5 prime device will be running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Huawei EMUI skin in the top. The device has a powerful 3020 mAH battery which seems decent enough. With the help of the power saving 6.0 technology, Huawei claims a 62-hour continuous music playback and 13 hours of video watch time on single charge. We have no confirmation about the pricing and availability of this device as of now but we are sure that the device will come in three different color Variants – Black, Blue & Gold.
